This rare, original, Art Nouveau, cast iron letter holder was made by the H. L. Judd Company of New Britain, CT, Wallingford, CT and Brooklyn, NY. It is a heavy, double slot piece, with a holder in the center, and sides that show a grouping of four Bulldogs in bas-relief with an embossed leash surrounding them.
It was made entirely of cast iron, and then coated with a bronze finish. At 5 3/8″ tall x 8 1/4″ long x 5 1/2″ wide, it is quite heavy and well made.
The bronze coating has worn off in places, primarily at its’ base, but it is still an extremely handsome desk accessory, and it displays with tremendous antique charm.
The H. L. Judd Company began in 1833, in New Britain, CT. Over a 100 year span, it moved through the hands of family members, through Wallingford, CT to Brooklyn, NY. The company’s decorative line of bookends and desk accessories originated in the early 1900s.
This fantastic, antique letter holder is definitely a perfect choice for both Bulldog enthusiasts, as well as serious collectors.
We are so happy this Bulldog found a new home. Would you like to find a vintage or antique dog collectible and bring home your own new friend? Just check out our shop to see our currently available antique and vintage dog collectibles.
