This wonderful adult Boxer dog was designed and produced by Mortens Studio.
Standing at 6 1/2″ tall x 8″ long x 3″ wide, he has fabulous detailing, showing all his muscles and folds of skin, as well as that characteristic Boxer “look” that is a half and half mixture of worry and mirth!
The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition. This dog is in good condition, with a small chip on the underside of his tail. He also has a swipe of white paint on his chest. We are not sure whether it is original to this dog, or was accidentally done at some point in this Boxer’s history.
If you collect Mortens Studio canines, then this is an opportunity to add a terrific example of this particular breed to your collection.
