Sterling Silver Dogs Playing Poker
This is not just your ordinary vintage pill box.
The cover of this amazing, sterling silver gem is a wonderful reproduction of the famous “Dogs Playing Poker” art by the American artist, Cassius Marcellus Coolidge.
The original artwork was created in 1894 as part of a series of 18 individual paintings. Eleven of them depicted dogs playing poker, the other seven depicted comical dogs doing other human things.
Sixteen of these pictures were commissioned by Brown & Bigelow in 1903 to advertise cigars.
This vintage pill box is not only practical, but fun as well. The more you look at it, the more you chuckle. For example, can you see the Bulldog in the foreground secretly slipping an ace to his partner?
Measuring 1″ x 1 1/8″, it is marked “STERLING” on the inside.
It is in excellent condition, with some mild scratching due to use and age.
This vintage pill box is a unique and practical collector’s piece that would make a fabulous gift to any dog lover.
