Antique Begging Dog Desktop Stamp Moistener
Circa Early 1900s
This incredible, bronze begging dog figurine is a desktop stamp moistener.
He is a rare and very unique figurine, highly detailed, with an open mouth and a long rosy red felt tongue.
The felt tongue extends down into his body where, when filled with water, it would wick up to the portion that shows in the dog’s mouth. That portion would be used to moisten stamps.
Measuring a full 9″ tall x 3 1/8″ wide x 4″ deep, he is in excellent condition for his age.
The hinge on the back of his collar has broken on one side. It sets neatly and securely on the dog’s body, but the dog’s head removes completely, rather than tipping back.
The entire piece is painted in an antique gold wash and it is Pat.D PDC on the side of its rectangular base.
This rare dog figurine looks to be either a spaniel or a retriever. All of his fine detailing gives him not only a gorgeous, furry coat, but also the very engaging expression of a dog excited to do his job.
