This engaging, bronze Whippet and turtle figurine was created by Christine Baldwin, a world-renowned sculptress form California, whose work can be found in many museums, in the private collections of A.K.C. dog show judges, and even in Buckingham Palace. Sitting 5 1/2″ tall x 4 1/2″ long x 3″ wide, this playful Whippet is timidly raising his paw upon discovering a small turtle crossing his path. This hard-to-find example of this artist’s work was done using the “lost-wax method”, and it is exquisitely detailed. It is both signed and dated 1981, and It also shows a copyright mark. A number of Christine Baldwin’s bronze dogs are done with another animal included as part of the piece, such as a Great Dane Puppy with a turtle, or a Pug with a frog. In our research, we were not able to find this Whippet with a turtle, so we believe it to be somewhat rare, and a truly wonderful find for Baldwin bronze collectors. Whippet enthusiasts will appreciate the realism of this elegant figurine, as well as the charming depiction of this breed’s personality.
