These wonderful, German Shepherd bookends may be showing their age, but they are still quite captivating.
Attributed to the work of Joseph B. Hirsch, they show his well known ability to capture the “essence” of these noble dogs in his art.
They were made of bronze and then gilded. Although some of that gold paint has worn off, the true elegance of these dog figurines remains in their poised expressions, alert and waiting for a command, and their relaxed but trained positions, showing off their fearlessness and tremendous confidence.
Their polished stone bases also show wear, but also have a wonderful Art Deco appeal.
They each measure 4 3/4″ tall x 7″ long x 5″ wide.
