This extraordinary sterling silver inkwell is hallmarked “London 1896” and the maker is TB (Thomas Bradbury). The inkwell is cut glass with a sterling top, bottom and lid, which is also adorned with a beautiful dog portrait, done in enamel. The collar/hinge of the inkwell is also hallmarked silver. This inkwell is a true treasure for collectors or just admirers of antique sterling silver hollow ware and/or antique inkwells. It also has tremendous appeal for dog lovers. The dog portrait on the lid is extraordinary both in the quality of its detail and the beauty of the dog’s (we believe to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier) gentle expression. Please note that the inkwell and tray are in excellent condition. However, the glass on the dog’s portrait has a slight rough feel in one spot, that is not really visible.
