There are so many dogs on this unique, cast iron and marble box (20 in total), that it is hard to show it all in just a few pictures. Standing 5″ tall x 7 1/8″ long x 4 1/4″ wide, this fabulous box has both a Scottish Terrier and a Welsh Terrier figurine on the top. On each of the long sides, you can see five dogs, the dog on each end forming a leg of the box. On each short side there are three dogs. When you open the box, you will notice that two dogs meet in the center, to act as the hinges. The box is constructed primarily of cast iron, painted black. It is lined on the inside with what looks to be teak wood. The top is made of marble. This amazing box is in good vintage condition. There are two small chips along the edge of the marble top, and there are two cracks along the top as well. The cracks are difficult to notice because they run along the natural veining of the marble. They also do not appear to be in danger of splitting, and thus damaging the top, because the hinges hold the marble very tightly in place.
Although we believe that this box was originally designed to be used as a humidor, it is easy to repurpose it to hold many other things. As a decorative piece for a dog enthusiast, it is extraordinary.
