This rare and wonderful sculpture is cast in bronze and patinated deep brown. It captures the inquisitive nature of a puppy dog, who finds that a bee has landed on his leg, and he raises his leg to get a better look at it.
This enchanting bronze dog figurine was created by Eduoard-Marcel Sandoz c.1918. Sandoz was a popular animalier sculptor in both Switzerland and France. He achieved international status in 1939, when he exhibited his work at the International Exhibition in New York.
During his lifetime in Switzerland, (1881-1971), Sandoz created over 1800 sculptures, mostly animals.
Interestingly, his father, Edward Sandoz, was the founder of Sandoz Pharmaceutical, which is now Novartis.
Measuring 5″ tall x 4.5″ long x 2.25″ deep, this bronze puppy dog is in excellent condition. It is molded with the artist’s signature, a circular cachet, as well as the foundry mention “Susse Fes Edits Paris.” This foundry is now the oldest art foundry still active in France, and it carries a stellar reputation.
Extraordinary in every way, this Sandoz bronze dog will capture both your imagination and your heart.
