This is a fabulous matchbox holder sold by Udall & Ballou (1888-1940’s), one of the finest New York jewelers of the early 20th century. It is sterling silver, and it is marked “STERLING” and “UDALL & BALLOU”. Best of all, it has an applied sterling and enamel Westie dog, that is beautifully detailed in white with touches of gray and tan. It is in excellent condition, with some scratching that you would expect due to its age. It has been polished, but a professional polishing would easily restore it to its jewelery-quality brilliance. It is 1 3/4″ long x 1 1/8″ wide. What a great addition to a collection of match safes, match boxes or Westies!
