This beautiful, porcelain, hand-painted pitcher/jug was made in Vienna, Austria between 1890 -1895. It shows a background of leafy acorn branches and acorns, with a deep brown spout and a gilded gold handle. What is particularly unique and special about this pitcher is the highly detailed portrait of a Saint Bernard dog painted on one side. It is marked with the crown and double shield back stamp and the words “Vienna” and “Austria”, which identifies it as coming from the Thun Factory, and imported by the P.H. Leonard Company, a New York based importer and distributor of Bohemian goods. At 6″ tall x 5 1/2″ in diameter, it is in excellent condition, with normal wear of the gold paint on the handle. All other “white” spots are due to the camera during the photo process. If you are a St. Bernard or other big dog enthusiast, this pitcher/jug is a very unique, decorative item for a bar, or den in your home. If you love the work of the old, Austrian artists on porcelain, than this wonderful piece of art will certainly exceed your expectations.
