This antique, porcelain, matchstick holder was made in the form of a boot.
What looks to be a Brittany Spaniel puppy has wrapped himself over the front of the boot.
This wonderful piece was made and hand painted in the Dresden Area Porcelain Studio (Germany) between 1900 – 1940. It is 3 1/4″ tall x 2 3/4″ long x 1 3/4″ wide, and it is in excellent condition. The boot is painted a high gloss black with a beautiful aqua blue wash in it’s interior. If you look closely, you can see a few fleabites along the top rim that do not detract from the beauty of this piece.
This is a wonderful, whimsical, decorative piece that can also be put to practical use to hold everything from toothpicks to cufflinks.
