This unique and charming antique, English porcelain West Highland Terrier, “Westie”, stands upright presenting what looks to be a straw basket handbag. Done in a glossy white, without any other distracting colors, it would seem that the designer wanted to draw your attention to this gorgeous dog’s rippling fur. He is wearing a gold colored collar which is detailed in a metallic gold to give it a bit of sparkle. The same metallic gold is added to the braiding and tassels that surround the turquoise and white ruffled cushion that this sweet dog is perched upon. This wonderful figurine stands 7 1/4″ tall on the cushion base that is a 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ square. It is marked on the underside with a hand painted number 708, and a barely legible Diamond Registration impressed mark. This form of English Rd. was discontinued in 1883, and the “M” that is just barely visible at the bottom point of the diamond dates this figurine to 1868-1883. There is a small hairline on the inside of the basket that is not visible on the exterior. Otherwise, this fabulous dog is in excellent condition.
