You can almost see his story in his eyes when you look at this vintage Bulldog. He is in almost perfect condition with only a very tiny flake of paint missing on his muzzle. For Bulldog lovers, he epitomizes some of the most wonderful characteristics of the breed…faithfulness, compassion, and an incredible talent for observation! The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition. This Bulldog carries the Mortens Studio stamp on its underside, and the gold foil label on his back. He sits in a classic Bulldog pose at 3 1/2″ tall x 3″ long x 3 1/2″ wide. Although Mortens Studio Dogs are very collectible, this particular Bulldog is very hard to find. Beautiful detailing, his wonderfully “wistful” expression, and soft, subtle coloring, make him a treasure for collectors, or the perfect canine “friend” to grace your desk or bookshelf.
