Mention Vintage Nippon Humidor with Dog and Moriage Detailing plus the item number POT-2174

This very unique, vintage humidor features a seated dog, and moriage detailing. Created by the Nippon, it was used to hold small amounts of loose tobacco. It was hand painted, and then decorated with beading and applied paint in a relief effect. This special process was called “moriage” in which the decorative features were designed separate from the body of the piece and then applied by carefully piping them on in narrow ribbons of clay after the body was made. This beautiful humidor has this moriage detailing on the top knob of the lid, along the top edge of the lid, and also running along under the top edge of the jar.

The entire humidor measures 6″ tall, and it has a base diameter of 3″. The color palette is spectacular with a soft moss green paired with a mustard yellow. This muted background is perfect to really show off the seated dog, which is hand painted a matte black and outlined in bright white.

This fabulous example of Nippon pottery is in mint condition, bearing the green hallmark with the letter “M” in the center. It was used between 1914-1940, and identifies the piece as one that was imported to the USA from Japan by the Morimura brothers.

If you are a collector of Nippon Pottery, this wonderful humidor would be a spectacular addition to your collection. As a dog enthusiast, this unique humidor is truly a gem of a find.
